From The Fire: Chapter 2

by AYYA

1.
Where there is light there are shadows. Around the world many had learned to live in peace and harmony with nature in commun with AYYA. But all was not well in paradise. A ship appeared off the coast of an island. A ship so alien it was barely visible at first. The strange bearded white men who spewed forth were at first welcomed as friends, gods even. Gods hungry for gold and thirsty for blood. The locals had to stand and fight for their lives in paradise. That fateful day the shadows took our breath away

Perched upon a tree, battered and bruised AYYA watched as their ships retreated into the distance. The shadows had been defeated today but the people of AYYA knew they would return one day tenfold. And when they did they brought with them disease, slavery and death. Countless millions died. Those who remained were forced from the land, tortured and worked to death, all in the name of a god.

As the bullet entered his heart, the last warrior of his kind, it began to slow, soon his fight would be over and he would rejoin with the spirit of our ancestors. AYYA tortured by every blow, hearing the cry of every orphaned child felt incredible sadness and pain for the life-forces she had encouraged to flourish on this rocky planet. She had given herself fully to this planet, all of her life energy to create a living paradise. Yet in a cosmic blink of an eye, so much could be lost, so much needless pain caused. She realised the truth of what could happen when people lost their connection, their humanity. Man’s inhumanity to man, makes countless thousands mourn

"If I'm design'd yon lordling's slave, By Nature's law design'd, Why was an independent wish E'er planted in my mind? If not, why am I subject to His cruelty, or scorn? Or why has man the will and pow'r To make his fellow mourn? "A few seem favourites of fate, In pleasure's lap carest; Yet, think not all the rich and great Are likewise truly blest: But oh! what crowds in ev'ry land, All wretched and forlorn, Thro' weary life this lesson learn, That man was made to mourn. "Many and sharp the num'rous ills Inwoven with our frame! More pointed still we make ourselves, Regret, remorse, and shame! And man, whose heav'n-erected face The smiles of love adorn, - Man's inhumanity to man Makes countless thousands mourn!
